About Me

My name is Ifeanyi Mordi, a PhD student of Rhetoric and Professional Communication (RPC) at New Mexico State University (NMSU). My research is on ethical usability, data communication, and design thinking in technical and professional communication. I work as a graduate assistant where I currently teach Professional and Technical Communication Honors. I also work as a Coordinator at the Creative Research Center in the English department at NMSU.

Prior to pursuing a PhD in the RPC program, I obtained my master’s in the same program where I graduated with honors. During that time, I was awarded the Merit Based Enhancement Fellowship from the Graduate School. My Master’s Essay was on Ethical Usability in E governance where I developed a critical socio technical usability analysis toolkit to examine the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)’s website. In addition, I worked as a Writing Center consultant where I provided valuable feedback to students on their writing projects. As an instructor, I taught ENGL 1110G, which is an introductory composition class for undergraduates.

Before enrolling in the master’s program at NMSU, I spent five years as a media and communications officer in Nigeria, where I experienced how strategic technical communication could determine organizational success. I worked in the private and public sector within those five years, during which I crafted messages grounded in ethos, logos, and pathos to build credibility with local stakeholders, engage clients from various sectors, and inform government partners with clear and logical information. This practical experience strengthened my appreciation for the impact of well-designed communication practices. I enrolled in the master’s program with the desire to understand the depth of theoretical knowledge that supports and enhances these communication practices. Through intensive coursework and research, I am gaining insights into multimodal composition, user engagement strategies, and ethical communication practices essential for addressing complex audience needs.

Outside of work, I enjoy all activities with my partner, cooking, watching and playing football, and hanging with my buddies.

Through my diverse roles in research, teaching, and communications, I strive to bridge the gap between communication theory and professional practice. My goal is to develop tangible frameworks that help organizations build more effective and ethical user experiences.
